An Expired CNA Certification and How To Renew It

To become a CNA, 75 hours of training must be completed. When training has been completed, an examination must be taken in order to be certifed by the state you live in. It’s been estimated by federal agencies that the CNA field needs more people to fill the high number of jobs available. State-of-the-art medical technology has discovered new ways of increasing longevity. People are living to be older than ever before, so nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other medical facilities need qualified CNAs to care for their patients. Since certification is required to be a CNA, it’s important to know what happens with an expired CNA Certification.

Students must pass coursework on first aid, medical terms, health care, diagnostics, and other subjects. The training takes approximately two months, but following training, additional coursework may be taken for specialization and higher salaries. Requirements may vary for becoming a CNA. An expired CNA Certification is a liability if you aren’t aware of the laws prior to having your certifcation up for renewal.

If you haven’t kept up to date with your licensing, how do you handle an expired CNA Certification? You’ll have to contact the Licensing Board or the Business and Professional Regulation Board in your state. In some cases, you may only have to pay to renew your license. However, laws vary from state to state, and you might be required to take the CNA exam again or take additional courses to be up to date. If you haven’t actively worked for two years, you may have to enroll in classes and re-take the certification exam again. It depends on the laws of the state you reside in.
