CNA Certification Exam: What Does It Involve?

Many aspirants who intend to get a job as a certified nursing assistant would want to take up the CNA Certification Exam. But, before you opt for taking up the exam, it is important to undergo the certified nursing assistant training that can run for several weeks.

When it comes to CNA Certification Exam, the application procedure, the exam scope, fees and requirements are likely to vary with states in America. However, all states mandate that the test should have a couple of sub sections in which the candidate would get tested on. They constitute the written and the hands-on or the clinical skills category.

CNA Certification Exam, that has 2 parts in it, aims at testing the theoretical knowledge and the clinical skills acquired by you during the training. Basically it tests the way the trainee handles the patient, communicates with the patient and ensures security during this process.

The Written Test: Part I of CNA Certification Exam

This usually tests the psychosocial knowledge that the trainee has acquired in his training. The questions are usually multiple choice queries. But some states do include reading comprehensions. The queries given aim to test the trainee’s knowledge on the patient hygiene, nutrition, grooming, therapeutic processes and infection control.

Hands On Test: Part II of CNA Certification Exam

This part of the test requires the trainee to testify his knowledge on the practical patient care skills that he has acquired during his training in a live scenario. This might test the hand washing techniques or it might test the way the trainee bathes, monitors, grooms, assists and incorporates exercise routines into a patient. The trainee is expected to have imbibed good communication skills particularly when it comes to handle disoriented patients.
