Certified nurse assistants or nurse aides (CNAs) are considered as one of the most hired jobs in the medical industry today. The demand for nurse assistants will even increase in the coming years, with an 18% projected job growth for nurse assistants by 2018. Becoming a nurse assistant is only possible when you have completed the CNA requirements in Michigan . The major nurse aide requirements include attending the CNA training program and passing the state competency CNA test.
The Michigan Department of Community Health mandates CNA applicants to take at least 75 hours of nurse aide training. Under the CNA requirements in Michigan , nurse aide applicants must have 34 hours of classroom instruction, 16.5 hours of laboratory practice and 24.5 hours of hands-on training in actual clinics and facilities. Several schools and colleges offer CNA training like the Henry Ford Community College that offers an 11-week training program.
Every state in the United States is required to develop its own CNA certification program. To become a certified nurse assistant, you must pass the CNA test. Michigan contracted with Prometric in administering state competency tests. The CNA test is divided into two portions; written and hands-on. Also, part of the CNA requirements is checking the criminal background of applicants prior to the admission for CNA certification. There are 20 nurse aide testing locations around Michigan as of April 2011.
Recertification is another CNA requirement. As part of the CNA requirements in Michigan , nurse assistants must work for a minimum of 8 hours in every two years.
